203 Automated skin surface phenotype for melanoma risk assessment

چکیده

While population screening for melanoma is not recommended, those at high risk could lead to earlier detection and improved patient outcomes. Current stratification largely based on subjective clinical assessment self-report. This time-consuming dependent the experience understanding of person reporting. Therefore, improved, standardized methods are required. We developed an automated skin surface phenotype which assesses phenotypes associated with increased from three-dimensional (3D) total body imaging. focused four phenotypes: i) color, ii) naevus count their distribution, iii) photodamage, iv) freckling density. 3D imaging provides a high-resolution capture almost entire within minutes. Images Queensland adults both general (n=156) high-risk populations (n=300) were annotated phenotypes. Skin color was assessed via image processing techniques, while convolution neural networks (CNNs) used develop classification algorithms counts, photodamage Results promising, overall accuracies > 85% (k=0.56) CNNs, suggesting can be accurately objectively extracted images. Validated against traditional calculators, combined stratify people into appropriate prevention early protocols, as well monitor changes over time, providing indications progression along naevus- melanoma-genesis pathway. novel approach combining CNNs overcomes current limitations improve workflow prioritizing highest developing melanoma.

Is 2,3,5-pyrroletricarboxylic acid in hair a better risk indicator for melanoma than traditional epidemiologic measures for skin phenotype?

This study aims to assess type of melanin as a risk indicator for skin tumors, in a sample of melanoma cases and controls within a larger multicenter study (Helios 2), held in Europe and South America in 2001-2002. In each case and control, the melanin content in hair was assessed by three methods: 1) the amount of 2,3,5-pyrroletricarboxylic acid (PTCA); 2) the absorbance ratio with ultraviolet...

Pigmentation and skin reaction to sun as risk factors for cutaneous melanoma: Western Canada Melanoma Study.

Between 1 April 1979 and 31 March 1981, 904 residents of the four western provinces of Canada (population 6.5 million), were diagnosed as suffering from primary cutaneous malignant melanoma. Of 801 patients aged 20-79 years, 665 (83%) were interviewed along with control subjects chosen at random from the general population and matched for age, sex, and province. After exclusion of 70 subjects w...

MicroRNA-203 inhibits malignant melanoma cell migration by targeting versican

MicroRNA (miR)-203 has been demonstrated to function as a suppressor in tumorigenesis. Recently, miR-203 was reported to play a role in malignant melanoma (MM); however, the detailed function of miR-203 in MM remains unclear. In the present study, the expression of miR-203 was shown to be significantly downregulated in MM tissues when compared with normal adjacent tissues. Based on a bioinforma...
